HICEEC disburses on average $5,000 a year to qualified non-profit and business groups in support of economic activities. Applications can be considered at any time, but there may be two advertised calls each year - one in the spring and one in the fall. Applicants are encouraged to contact Karen Ross, HICEEC’s staff, at karen@hiceec.org to discuss their ideas prior to submission.
Beyond our own funds, staff can advise on other sources of funding that may be applicable to projects, including referral to the Hornby Island Community Fund, the CVRD Grants in Aid program, and other government, foundation, and private funders.
The organization may from time to time entertain investments that result in broad public benefit. This is the exception rather than the rule, and any investment will require greater diligence and time to process. Currently, HICEEC has investments in the hornbyisland.com website; the Visitor Guide, and a social impact loan (forgivable loan) with ISLA.
HICEEC acts as the clearing house for a group of investors who want to support small business establishment and business expansions on the island. Loans of up to $5,000 may be provided. Requests above this amount may be considered on a case-by-case basis. The application form below is sufficient to initiate the lending process.
